Home Education Information
In addition to our full-time program, Orange County Virtual School offers courses to Home Education students. It is important to know that the State of FL diplomas are only available to students registered as full-time OCPS students. All successfully completed coursework offered by OCVS is applied to the transcript. Therefore, home education students may return to the zone school or apply to be a full-time student at OCVS in the 12th grade.
Standardized testing is arranged with the zone school by the parent. Materials, including digital devices, are not provided to home education students.
Orange County Virtual is not responsible for promoting homeschool students to the next grade level. Home Ed students are required to turn in their yearly evaluations to the Home Ed Department.
How to Enroll
Please use the link below to register your child for the Home Education Program. This registration will serve as your Letter of Intent (LOI).
Please upload a copy of your student’s withdrawal form if they previously attended an OCPS district or charter school.
As a reminder, participation in the Home Education Program requires an annual evaluation to be submitted. The anniversary date will be the date you initially enrolled in Home Education and will be the same each year. The annual evaluation form is linked below in the Annual Evaluation Section.
NOTE: If you are participating in the Step-Up for Students PEP program, do not complete a registration with the district, as this will jeopardize scholarship funding.
Annual Evaluations
Home Education families MUST complete an annual evaluation and submit it to the Orange County Home Education Department. Click below for information and access to the annual evaluation form.
Upload documentation for one of the following five options when completing the Annual Evaluation
- A teacher certified in the state of Florida (valid regular teaching certificate) chosen by the parent/guardian, shall evaluate the child’s educational progress based on a review of the portfolio and discussion with the student; or
- The student shall take a nationally-normed achievement test administered by a certified teacher; or
- The student may take a state student assessment used by the school district and administered by a certified teacher, at a location and under testing conditions approved by the school district; or
- The student shall be evaluated by an individual holding a valid, active license pursuant to the provisions of s. 490.003(7) or (8); or
- LOCAL OPTION - OCPS will accept a transcript from Orange County Virtual School FLEX (OCVS) or Florida Virtual School FLEX (FLVS) that indicates successful completion of core classes in English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. If the transcript shows failing or incomplete grades in these areas, or if the student did not take all of these courses at FLVS FLEX / OCVS FLEX, then this option is NOT available for the annual evaluation.
Non-compliance with submitting an Annual Evaluation may result in the student being withdrawn from Home Education.
